ParticipantI’ve been posting information about this project over at http://www.fauxinn.com for a while now. Sadly there isn’t much of a readership left over there, and the forum has been mostly taken over by spam-bots. I stumbled across this site when I was doing some reading about the history of TSN/INN and I thought the readers here would definitely be interested.
The project I am working on is an emulated INN server. Using the original client software running in DOSBox, the network messages are forwarded via internet protocol to the emulated server that I am creating. At this point I am able to log myself in to the server, enter a waiting room in the Clubhouse, and chat with the other (virtual) people in the waiting room.
I have been putting videos up on YouTube showing the progress that I am making with the server. You can check those out here and here. Currently the people in the waiting room are just emulated for testing of the network messaging protocol, but hopefully soon they will be real.
I’d really like to hear any thoughts or questions about the project.

ParticipantI believe that this project has been brought up here, before. I think that there is a fair bit of interest in it, but I’m afraid that it won’t be of much more than a passing interest until people can actually use it.

ParticipantGreat job, I really enjoyed it!! Though it’s true of course what “collector” says in the previous posting, it is already very interesting, especially for those who only heard about TSN/INN. I think at least one of the demos you made for YouTube should be included inthe Sierra Archives at this site, as is shows a piece of Sierra history.

ParticipantAwesome Work!!
It was amazing to see the old INN GUI again after all of these years… Your efforts I am sure are appreciated by everyone. =) I know they are by me.
No comments here, but how’s the functionality?

ParticipantThe functionality is currently pretty much as you see in the videos. I am working right now on getting Conferences implemented on the server. I want to have that working at least before I let other people start logging in.
Chat in the clubhouse waiting room is strictly one-to-one, so I need to get conferences running before any number of people will be able to get online and interact in any real way. I got the client to successfully enter a conference room today, so things are coming along nicely on that front.

ParticipantWell, keep up the great work. =)
I’m sure a lot of people are thinking the same as well.

ParticipantAn update on the project:
The last time I wrote I was working on getting conferences set up on the server. I ran into a brick wall there, so I took a step back and looked more closely at the invitation system, and getting some games to work. Yesterday I finished up implementing the invitation system, and this morning I played the first game of Checkers that has taken place within INN for a long time.
I made a new video of a game invitation and a few moves in Checkers. It is posted on YouTube along with my other videos, the link is below. I have a few issues in the server to work out, but I hope that very soon I will be able to open up the server during limited times to let people check it out. I’m working on a small website with information about how to get everything set up so you can get online in the future. I’ll post a link when it is a bit more complete.

ParticipantI have now set up a simple website for the project, it can be found here.
If you check out the ‘Getting On-Line’ section you will learn about what tools are needed to get connected. You will also notice that I am planning on hosting a public demonstration of the INN server on Saturday, March 24th. There is an e-mail address on that page where inquiries about the demonstration can be sent.
If there is enough interest in the demonstration before that date, I will e-mail anyone that signs up with the details and look forward to seeing them on-line. If interest is limited, I may reschedule to allow more time for word to get around.

ParticipantIt’s been quite a while since I last posted here. Since that time, I have made all of the “lands” except for the Schoolhouse and Arena available. The Schoolhouse and Arena client software are not included with the versions of INN that I have, so they can’t be accessed. The Shadows of Yserbius was the latest addition to the server and it has really brought people pouring in, so to speak. Since I opened Yserbius, the highest number of users online at once has gone from three to eight and the number of unique visitors to the server has gone from seven to over twenty.
All of the people getting online and sending supportive e-mails have really made the hard work worthwhile. Although it is an arduous process bringing new features to the server, because of the support coming from the community of former/aspiring INNers, I don’t see the work stopping any time soon. The next major feature that I am working to bring back is Red Baron.
