At MobyGames I read that a CD Talkie version of Robin Hood – Conquest of the Longbow was released around 1993.
I cant find any other sources confirming that.
Can someone confirm that? Is this true?

(re: Has there ever been a CD Talkie of Robin Hood?) I have never personally come across a CD Talkie version of Robin Hood in all my years of Sierra collecting… so I feel pretty confident in saying it was most likely listed incorrectly on MobyGames.

(re: Has there ever been a CD Talkie of Robin Hood?) Speaking of the Conquests series – I would appreciate hearing more background info about it. Though I didn’t think much of “Conquests of Camelot” (bad puzzles and sloppy plot, IMO), “Longbow” was a huge improvement – not only did it have beautiful graphics and music (ranking among Mark Seibert’s best, in my book) but the puzzles were also an elegant mix of genres – adventure, action and even a little strategy. And I liked the way the character of Robin Hood developed according to the player’s actions. Yes, the game was a little too easy, but I was always hoping for a sequel in the series, dealing with another folklore-figure.
BTW the series’ designer, Christy Marx, keeps a website at:

She’s a very prolific TV writer, and interestingly, an episode she wrote for “Babylon 5” deals with a man searching for the Holy Grail!

I realise some CD upgrades were begun and then cancelled, e.g. SQ5. However, I do have a rolling demo of Conquests of the Longbow with full speech for all the characters.

      Whatever that means.

I went over to my parents’ house this past weekend and managed to dig up the demo I was talking about.

It works fine in DOSbox, and I recommend using the Boxer front-end. Set it up to use the AdvMame2X filter, which smoothes things out measurably.

All in all, it isn’t anything as spectacular today as I remembered it. Still, it does feature speech for the narrator and some characters, which leads me to believe that an MPC version was at least in progress at some point, regardless of whether it was released or not.

Rolling demo for Conquests of the Longbow.

Wow, this must be a rare oddity. I can’t look at this ’cause I’m at work right now, but just wondering what the source of the demo is. Floppy disk since it’s so small? Any chance you’d part with the original disk (if you have it) for either Brad or myself to add it to our perhaps-future-museum collections?

I had/have a hint book that talked about the “Upcoming” Talkie version of Robin Hood. I even saw the CD/Talkie version advertised in some computer game seller ad in an old magazine. I played RH to death but never saw a voice version, I eventually figured it had been canned.. How hard would it be to add voice to this game? (Outside of finding good voice actors of course 🙂 I wonder who they had planned on using?

Sorry, don’t have it on any official Sierra disk. It came with a collection of demos (from a variety of publishers) which was included with my first ever CD-ROM drive back in the early nineties. My father went to America on business and brought back a Creative Labs upgrade kit (SB16 + Double Speed CD-ROM drive). Man, what a buzz that was!

(re: re: Has there ever been a CD Talkie of Robin Hood?) Could you make it available on this (or another site) so that we can download it? I’m very curious!

Hi, I attached it to my second post on this thread. I can see the attachment on my monitor. I can download it fine from there. If the link isn’t visible on your computer, it could be some kind of problem with the site’s new appearance. It seems some users are having those.

Well I don’t know about Longbow, but there’s a Robin Hood Legend of Sherwood…It’s all talkie (but it’s not Sierra unfortunately).

In my Longbow the option for speech is there but it doesn’t work 🙁

(re: Has there ever been a CD Talkie of Robin Hood?) I haven’t downloaded the demo yet (so maybe the info is in a credit section), but does anyone know which voice actors worked on it?

I, too, think that LONGBOW was one of the most beautiful Sierra games, with fantastic graphics, great music and a mood that made it wonderful just to be in this world, not just to beat the game, but just to experience it – if you know what I mean. Also, there were multiple ways to solve puzzles, and even multiple endings, so I played it several times to see if there are parts which I hadn’t seen or played before.

I have just replayed the game, after many years. My impression of it can be found earlier in this thread, and it hasn’t changed. If anything, it only grew stronger. More than any other Sierra game, “Conquest of the Longbow” feels like an epic film – mostly because it tells a bigger-than-life story from start to finish, with such a rich historical background, in which the fantasy elements were so well implanted.
Speaking of historical background, I remember reading somewhere that the musical score of the game (as I have already said, I think it’s Mark Seibert’s finest) is adpted from actual ballads written and composed on Robin Hood. Does anyone know if there’s any truth to this?
