ParticipantHi there
In my search for Sierra goodies I stumbled across this site:
Link: http://www.softwarefarm.com/gr_description.htm(http://www.softwarefarm.com/gr_description.htm) Now from having played the Sierra version of the game, I would say that it is identical by looking at the screenshot. Do you think it is possible that Software Farm purchased the rights to repackage and resell the Sierra game? I like the fact that they are actually going to some effort to package the game nicely – wooden box and map.
Thoughts anyone? -

Participant(re: Goldrush lives again) Hmmm…I looked at the page you listed, and the graphics sure do look like what you’d expect of a Sierra game.
One thing bothers me, though. Did you look at the “Meet the Authors” page?
Link: http://www.softwarefarm.com/gr_authors.htm(http://www.softwarefarm.com/gr_authors.htm) I don’t know who authored the Sierra game, but either The Software Farm got them to pose, or something. Here’s what the first caption (about the authors) actually says:
Ken and Doug MacNeill, born in New York, lived many years in the heart of the California Gold country while working for a major software development company.
The two men are posing in front of what looks like an old 386 or 486 (I notice the vintage 5.25″ drives, particularly) so it’s entirely possible that it’s an old publicity shot from the first game, or just a mock up for a “vintage” feel.
I’d be interested in knowing what Ken thinks of it.

Ken and Doug MacNeil were the designers of Gold Rush. This topic has come up before, Ken has posted about it also. Look under Cool Sierra Links. Whatever the case may be, I believe that they are selling the game through the company Software farm. I wrote an email to them a while ago asking if they had any copies of the game left(wooden box version). I never recieved a reply though.

I noticed that the date on the website is 2000, so it’s possible the whole thing has been abandoned.

Participant(re: Goldrush lives again) I dropped a line myself asking if it was still available just now as well.
Curious (perhaps Kenn could answer), how it is that they’re able to resell the GOLDRUSH game, yet other makers are not able to resale the games they worked on? (Or are they able to?) Or were the folks who did GOLDRUSH under a different contract, then say, Al Lowe? -

Goldrush! was my first Sierra game. The MacNeil brothers were the creators of it and from what I can tell they never made another game. Although in my opinion it was the best Sierra game ever released. The puzzles were down right amazing, the story was lightyears ahead of everything else. That game is a true classic often overlooked because it was “educational”.
I just called the number and got a voice message from someone named MacNeil and was told to leave my name and number if I wanted to order Goldrush! so I did. Will update when I hear back. I would kill someone in a most viscious manner for that boxed set.
