Haha… do you have eBay frustration? Then post here!
My eBay frustration is missing 3 great lots / items of sealed Sierra items in the past 2 days, and all went for stupidly cheap prices. Firstly because yesterday I just plain forgot, which was stupid, but today because usually I can just sit at work and surf the internet but today it got so busy because no one else was here… so as soon as I got back from lunch I didn’t get a chance to log on and bid, and an hour later, the bid was over.

Use Auctionsniper.com
Set your absolute highest price on the item and walk away.
5 seconds before the auction ends your bid is automatically placed from auctionsniper by proxy bid. So if your snipe is set to $30, but the next bid is $19 then you snipe the item at $19.
I never lose an auction due to no internet availability, or forgetting. 🙂

Personally speaking, I think eBay should ban automatic sniping… If you’re going to bid a max then put it in when you can – this you don’t need to snipe. However, we all know that most of the items we want, we *really* want and it’s like a child in a sweet shop (I want that one now!) and so people just push the auction price past your max. I’m sure that this is sometimes does just to see how much the max bid was. Bah, eBay – can’t live with or without it 🙂

(re: Auction Sniper for sierra games.) Sniping is always controversial… disregarding that 5-second site, what if your maximum bid is $100? Now, you put in $100. Someone else also has a max bid of $100. You’re away and in the last minutes / seconds, that person bids $101. But, if you were there, you would gladly go $1 more (now a total of just $2 more than your “max” bid). So you really have to stay to the end of the auction to watch for that.
Ah well… my eBay spending money is pretty much spent so I’ll probably remove my searches now. I’ve built up a great collection of stuff to help out my work on this site over the past few months, but I’m out of cash. I’ll have to start the processing work now so we actually see some cool stuff around here!

I see what you are saying… but where does it end? If the bid goes to $102 then you would bid $103? You snipe auctions at the highest price you are willing to pay. So if $110 would cover it then you choose $110 and win the auction between $100-$109. Or bid $150 and win at $109 to be extra safe. Snipe at your highest proxy bid. It works very well for me. For example, Gmail accounts sell for $40-$85. I sniped two Gmail accounts at $30 each. I relisted 1 Gmail account and it sold for $84! I must have lost 12 Gmail account snipes because I set my snipe limit to $30, but I sold 1 of those Gmail accounts for $84. Sniping is a different practice altogether. 🙂

Hmmm… I wasn’t aware of all these “sniping” sites out there. Do they charge for the service or is it free? I really do miss the good old days of eBay, which is just like the good old days of everything else: less idiots! I actually think I outsniped a sniper the other day when I manually bid an odd amount (like $34.83 or something) during the last 30 seconds. It looks like someone tried to outbid me, but the odd amount threw them off. SWEET!
On the other hand here’s MY latest frustration:
I bought a set of KQ’s for relatively cheap that were listed as “Like new, near mint, yadda yadda” with “all manuals and paperwork.” The photos were bad, but it looked like everything (yes, everything) was there.So they get here, and KQ5 is missing a disk (there’s a startup disk for the 256c version instead), KQ6 is missing the Guidebook, and the boxes are in overall bad shape. Needless to say, I complain, the seller denies it and THEN claimed they’re “no expert” and they were “as-is” 🙁 The seller never left feedback after they got my payment because they wait to see what other people say about them first. The feedback profile shows in every negative instance (about 5 out of 350) the seller retaliated by leaving negative for the buyer too!! Which is why the whole feedback system is flawed, but anyway…

I hear ya Tom. In a case like that, it really is hit and miss – and yeah, the feedback system fails ya too. I know at YOIS there’s a list of eBay users that have been blacklisted. Maybe we should setup something over here a bit more detailed, with a list of eBay sellers (just for Sierra games) and a description of how any transaction went so that those using eBay can check and see what experience others have had with any particular seller.
