I was a TSN/INN sysop way back when (TSNBob). I have noticed that nothing has ever filled the void left by its demise (no unified service, anyway). I understand that Ken has retained patents, but if those were licensed, is there anything else that would prevent a new service that essentially duplicated TSN/INN from starting up?
I don’t know anything about rights and patents but from a tech point of view it would actually be fairly easy to reacreate TSN. If we went with a good developement environment (like Microsoft .NET), it would be quick and painless with the right team and resources. Although TSN was revolutionary and advanced for the time, it is all very ‘old hat’ now, so none of the programming would turn out to be a major hurdle. I would be up for helping with such a project (as a programmer) but getting the rest of the team together would be a problem. As all of us here know, volunteer projects are hard to maintain. We have had that problem before. I for one loved TSN, and would be honored to help recreate it.
By the way, didn’t some other group already start redoing TSN? I can’t remember the name or website though.
