ParticipantHey everyone, let me know your opinion of this. I made this black box today for doing product (or anything else) shots. The levels (brightness / contrast) are likely bad because I’m using a crappy old monitor at the moment and I can’t tell properly, and I just took this quickly with a digital camera… but ignoring that, let me know what you guys think.

I, too, also think it’s a well done job. I still have original boxes for Shivers, Shivers II, GK2, GK/LE, MOE, KQ/LE, Red Baron 3D, Phantas2, GK3, GK/LE German Edition, Jewel Case GK1 and Torin’s Passage. Also, still have KQ5 on Nintendo.

Participant(re: Amon Ra Product Shot Test) Thanks for the comments guys. Keep ’em coming. If the basics are good, start telling me the not-so-basics. I updated the image with a bit of a caption. If it’s in your cache, you have to refresh the page.
Robert, do you mean you have sealed boxes of those items, or just the opened boxes? I assume you’re talking about open boxes. I have a decent collection of good-condition open boxes, and now I’m trying to acquire all the sealed items that I can, and multiple copies – one copy for display as a sealed museum piece, another copy that I can take apart for archival purposes, and a third copy as a play copy. Of course, some games have multiple versions which I’m trying to acquire too. By now, I’ve run out of eBay funds though. Still, I have a good number of items. Hopefully part of the musem will be another aid to collectors who are just starting out (I wouldn’t want to or be able to do better than the already exhaustive vintage-sierra.com)

You can call me BEAR or user name HerrBearen… as that’s what I’m known by all over Aventure Forums. GH3x2 and 1 is still sealed. MOE, KQ/LECollection, GK1/2 LE in English and German are all opened and played. But, As with all my games, the boxes and CD’s are in the best of condition, have their respective books and maps… and anything else that was included with the game. These are part of my private collection, bought new, starting in 1998. I have also kept an archive of game pix and screenshots from 1999 until now. I still have the last InterActive magazine that Sierra sent out.. the only one I ever received, after registering Gabriel Knight 2. Just for this archive that you are trying to build, here is an eBay capture from 3-4 years ago, of GK1. The owner of this received a winning bid of 300.00+ for this set. (I was not the owner)

I would really appreciate it, if someone could scan the manual(s) and maps of Laura Bow 2 and upload it here.
Thx in advance

Participant(re: Amon Ra Product Shot Test) BEAR, cool! I love the Gabriel Knight 1 box, it’s so crazy, I don’t have one though.
Trin, hmmm, well it won’t be me ’cause I don’t have an open copy of this game! It was Vincent I believe who said he was going to work on doing all these sorts of things so eventually we’ll have everything here, maybe someone else will do though for you now.

Participant(re: Amon Ra Product Shot Test) Sorry, I don’t have the full boxed version of LB2, only the CD jewel case version.

Participant(re: Amon Ra Product Shot Test) I’m still hoping someone will do some LB2 scans… I picked up a boxed copy at Goodwill a few months ago but all the documentation was for Colonel’s Bequest. I think someone got their manuals mixed up in the wrong boxes before they made their Goodwill donations. 🙁 The game that came in the box is the floppy disk version so I can’t play it without the copy protection.
Brandon, I think your “black box” looks good!

Participant(re: Amon Ra Product Shot Test) I have the original boxed version of LB2. The manual should be in the box. When I get home, I’ll see if it’s in there…I’ll scan it in. Does anyone want it in hi-res? Otherwise, I’ll just post them big enough to be ledgible.
P.S. Is scanning manuals legal? I don’t want to voilate copyright laws…

Participant(re: Amon Ra Product Shot Test) P.S. Is scanning manuals legal? I don’t want to voilate copyright laws…
1) It’s not legal. Most manuals probably say inside something like “do not reproduce this.”
2) Websites have reproduced manuals and haven’t gotten into trouble yet. Such as replacementdocs.com, or in a Sierra-specific example, SpaceQuest.net.
3) VU Games likely doesn’t care if we scan the old Sierra manuals.
4) Ken Williams says it’s OK on this website, in his opinion.
So, you have to make your own decision.

Participant(re: Amon Ra Product Shot Test) Hi, Emily. I looked in the box and I found three manuals…three manuals!?!? haha ok ok I know some of them probably got mixed up with other games I have but just in case, I have the cover posted below of each one that was in the box.
Which one were you referring to? The purple one is the only one that has info about LB2. The others are how to use the mouse, which icons do what, etc.
About the copyright laws, I’m not too crazy about scanning the whole manual and posting it here. Perhaps, Emily, we could ‘discuss’ this through email? It’s jleiby (at) go (dot) com. Sorry for the wierd spelling, I don’t any harvesters getting my email!
If you need help getting past anything in the game, I’ll help you (if that’s why you’d like scans of the manual)
p.s. Thanks, Brandon, for the copyright info. 🙂

Participant(re: Amon Ra Product Shot Test) The Leyendecker manual is likely the one with copyright info.
The second and third ones must be from other games. They are standard Sierra manuals that were issued with many games (though not both of them at once, they’re from different years). The Amon Ra manual that contains this sort of standard info was a custom one, not one of the standard ones.

Participant(re: Amon Ra Product Shot Test) Can someone else please scan the manual?
Cover shots are not very helpful, beside that they can be found on several other websites.
I mean I uploaded the entire “Colonel Bequest” manual as pdf file. It would be nice I if someone could return the favor.

The Leyendecker one is the one I am interested in. I can understand not wanting to scan the whole thing, especially if you feel uncomfortable about it due to the copyright stuff. Copyright is a sticky issue. My understanding is that you need to refer to various parts of it each time you start the game (am I right?) so unless I can get my hands on the whole thing, I probably won’t be able to get past the copy protection to play.
I will keep looking and will post here if I find a scan of the manual at another site.

How do you convert multiple pages into a pdf file? I don’t have Acrobat Distiller but I have Photoshop. The problem with Photoshop is, I can’t make separate pages…I can only make one huuuge picture.
