ParticipantBelow you will find a link to a site I accidenty stumbled on a few months ago. It’s something from Sierra’s really early days, when it still was known as On-Line Systems. Apparently, the Smithsonian Institution has an archived video of Douglas Carlston, Ken and Roberta Williams, Margot Comstock, Jerry Jewell, and Dave Albert discussing “The Brotherhood”. For those of you that haven’t read Steven Levy’s Hackers, The Brotherhood was a group formed by the first software entertainment companies, including On-Line Systems. This video can actually be ordered from the Smithsonian Institution. I would really like to do so myself, but since I’m not living in America it’s pretty much work. However, I believe this video would be well worth the money spent. It would give a great insight into the way the industry worked at that time. Do you even remember doing this thing Ken?

Let me know if you find where to order the video! I’ll order it immediately.
I remember taping this, but never saw the tape they made. I’m VERY curious to see it.

It’s right there on the site! Click on “Duplication Information” at the bottom of the page. The process of ordering it is a little complicated; you have to post them an application form, specifying what you want, why you want it and paying for it in advance. They will then make a copy and send it to you. Transcripts on paper are also available. Even if these archives aren’t intended for private persons using the material at their leisure, I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to obtain copies. Just telling them that you need them for “research” would probably be enough.
And please let us know more if you decide to order it! 🙂
