If you are using Soundblaster as your Audio card, and get the “Unable to initialize your audio hardware” error, try downloading a fix called “SOUND BLASTER MIDI PORT UTILITY” it worked for me, you can get it at this webpage http://queststudios.com/quest/Utilities.html
I don’t know whether it works for all Sierra games, but it worked for my KQ5 (DOS version) on XP Pro
