(re: re: KINGS QUEST 5) Most people have trouble getting the audio to work in the DOS version of KQ5. You can try one of the updated SoundBlaster drivers from Sierra’s FTP, or the GoSierra patch, but I could never get it to work. The Windows version works well enough (except for out of heap error near the end, but that is a problem with all versions of Windows.)
To get the Windows KQ5 running, all you have to do set your display to 640×480 x25 colors BEFORE you launch the Game. You can do this in the advanced display settings or write a batch file to launch the executable (it must also have the path to the configuration file) and setting the batch file to run in 640x480x256 colors on the compatability tab. The batch file makes it easier to play, as you don’t have to keep changing your display back and forth.
