It’s a known issue (nasty one too), there’s a patch. Go to Sierra’s ftp site (ftp.sierra.com) and look under the PC patches for torinpat.exe
Your saves won’t work once you’ve applied it (not that it matters since your saves got corrupted anyway) but you can start this game from any chapter, so you shouldn’t have to replay *too* much.
Enjoy the game! I love Torin’s Passage… except for that bug!
