Release Date: xx-xx-1996
Release Number: 1
Previous Game in Series: Lords of the Realm
Next Game in Series: Lords of the Realm III
Series: Impressions

Description:  Lords of the Realm II is a mixture of turn-based county and economic management and real-time combat.  As the game begins, the king has died and 5 nobles (including yourself) are vying for control of the realm, including the noble Baron, the headstrong Knight, the ice princess The Countess, and the backstabbing Bishop. You have to hold on to your counties by building larger castles and keeping the peasantry happy and well-fed.  When you engage your enemy in battle is when the real fun starts. You are given a Warcraft-type view of the battlefield with the units in your army and have to either get them to retreat (a rarity) or kill every last one of the little buggers. In a siege, you can end the battle by capturing the enemy's flag or dispatching all of your opponents soldiers to the great big Realm in the sky.   (From Mobygames description)

Roberta Williams, who designed Sierra's first game, Mystery House in 1980, felt it was time to write another murder mystery which lived up to the computer capabilities of the late eighties. Mystery House, which was put on public domain in 1988, was the first computer game ever with graphics, but it lacked colors, animation and sound. The Colonel's Bequest was developed, using EGA graphics, Sierra's SCI engine, sound and a music score, as well as featuring a deeper plot and more detailed character descriptions.

The game has a sequel, The Dagger of Amon Ra, which is also the last Laura Bow game. Both games are also included in the 1997 King's Quest Collection and the Roberta Williams Anthology. Although the original release of The Colonel's Bequest can still relatively easily be found on online auctions, a complete original game is considered as a true collector's item, as it contains many goodies which are often missing from second-hand sales, particularly the Laura Bow pen and notebook. The games copyright protection is also quite original: the gamer needs to use a magnifying glass (included in the box) to identify a fingerprint on the game screen.

Found this on steam the other day, 2.99 and works like a charm on win7

Getting 64 bit error message for setup.exe when trying to install on win10 with original Lords of the realm 2 cd.

Running in compatibility mode with Win95 or XP service pack 3 doesn't launch the setup either or CD either.

I can run the Lords2.exe. It lets you enter a player name when starting a new game and then the program quits.

I set lords2.exe to comp mode win95, run as admin, to get this far. But still cannot install the game.

On windows 8 you need to run the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2 and it will run fine on Windows 8.

Go the the installation directory (by default c:\sierra\lords2) and find the executable.  Right-click on it and choose properties.  Then go to the compatibility tab and check the box to run this program in compatibility mode.  Choose Windows XP SP2 from the dropdown and then click OK.  Then run the game.

Hi There. I just got a new PC with Windows 8. Unfortunately, my Lord of the Realm II disc doesn't work. Do you have a fix for that? If you could post that it would be super helpful; I cannot imagine I'm not the only middle-aged gamer who likes to stick with the classics.
